About Me

Dan Gibson is a musical theatre composer, music director, and arts educator currently MD’ing
Rock of Ages at The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. It has been an honor to music direct at the theatreA
where Dan got his start as an actor many years ago! Recently, Dan was a Visiting Professor for Elon
University’s nationally ranked Music Theatre Program. During that year BEAST MODE CHAMPION:
The Pro-Wrestling Rock Musical (book/lyrics by Alex Higgin-Houser) made its university-workshop
premier, and Dan created Elon’s first course on musical theatre writing. Dan’s first full length I.D., an
original musical (book/lyrics by Fred Ebb Award Winner Christopher Staskel) also premiered at Elon
in 2010.

When not at the theatre or his studio, Dan can be found around the globe vocal directing for
Royal Caribbean Productions. Past favorites include building the inaugural music department at
Enlightened Theatrics and MD’ing their first four seasons, and working at The Flat Rock Playhouse
where Dan has been an actor, music director and youth educator for almost 20 productions.
Dan and Alex have participated twice in the Catwalk Art Residency as they are writing their
new musical DISCOVERY, about the group of NASA astronauts who persevered in the wake of the
Challenger disaster. Stay tuned as we record record our first drafts of this emerging project!
Dan holds his MFA from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, a BFA from Elon
Music Theatre, and attended the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop. He is a member of The Dramatists
Guild and Actors Equity, and is a BroadwayWorld-Portland Award Winner for Best Music Direction.
